Marlins Rumors

-Ken Rosenthal reports that the Marlins are still going after Gerald Laird and that they'd only trade Jeremy Hermida and a prospect for Manny Ramirez. Texas wants Ryan Tucker from Florida for Gerald Laird, and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Marlins could go after Ronny Paulino.

No Offers For Laird

-Jayson Stark reports that the Rangers have no strong offers for Gerald Laird.

Bay to Toronto?

According to Jayson Stark, the Blue Jays are in the mix for Jason Bay.

Yanks Pursuing Byrd?

-Major league sources have told Ken Rosenthal that the Yankees may pursue Paul Byrd this afternoon. The Cleveland Plain Dealer says the Yanks and Rockies want Byrd. Jon Heyman says that the Arthur Rhodes trade gives the Yankees hope for acquiring Jarrod Washburn.

Manny Trade Dead

Peter Gammons is reporting that the Manny to the Marlins deal is dead. The Marlins are asking for more money than that to just cover Manny's contract. In the end the Red Sox would be giving up Manny, approximately 9 million dollars, and prospects for Jason Bay.

Odds & Ends

-MLB.com reports that the Nats aren't likely to deal their veterans and the Rays won't budge on their top pitching prospects for Bay or Dunn.

Twins Rumors

La Velle E. Neal III and Joe Christensen are reporting that the Twins are willing to trade Boof Bonser to get make a roster spot for Liriano. The Twins are also looking for RP, 3B, and 2B. They have inquired about Brian Roberts but got nowhere, and although it's not likely the Adrian Beltre deal isn't dead.

Pirates May Hold Up 3 Way Deal

-BP reports that the Pirates may want too much for Jason Bay and John Grabow and the trade perhaps could be off...The Boston Globe agrees.

Manny Approves Trade

-Buster Olney reports that the A's aren't likely to complete anymore trades.
-Ken Rosenthal says that the odds on a 3 way deal are about 50-50.

Pair Of Trades Completed

-Griffey has accepted and was dealt for reliever Nick Masset and IF Danny Richar. A couple of decent players.
-Florida has acquired lefty reliever Arthur Rhodes from Seattle for minor league righty Gaby Hernandez.

White Sox Agree To Acquire Griffey

-Ken Rosenthal reports that the Reds have agreed to deal Ken Griffey Jr to the White Sox, this is pending Junior's approval. Wow. Buster Olney thinks that Griffey will accept the deal and be dealt to the South Side of Chicago.

Morning Rumors

-The Boston papers report that there's a tentative agreement on the 3-team trade, but many things still have to be worked out. The AP reports that no deal has been agreed upon.
-Buster Olney now reports that the Maddux to Dodgers deal has hit another snag.
-The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the White Sox are targeting reliever Huston Street. They've been attempting three and even four team scenarios that would land Street and likely send Orlando Cabrera packing...somewhere.
-The SF Chronicle reports that Bengie Molina is probably going nowhere despite reports that he could be traded to Florida for Mike Jacobs.
-The Minneapolis Star Tribune says that Seattle asked for one of Nick Blackburn, Scott Baker, Kevin Slowey, Glen Perkins or Denard Span along with prospects for Adrian Beltre and that won't happen. The Twins could go and get either Mark Grudzielanek or Rich Aurilia with Boof Bonser and Craig Monroe available.

-Will Ohman talks broke off yesterday between Atlanta and St Louis, according to the Post-Dispatch. AL teams Chicago, Tampa, and Boston are interested.

While You Were Sleeping...

-Peter Gammons reported late last night that a deal between the Red Sox, Marlins, and Pirates involving Manny Ramirez, Jeremy Hermida, Jason Bay, and John Grabow is not done and the complications may not be worked out until the 4pm deadline. Ken Ronsethal reports that top Marlins prospects Ryan Tucker and Mike Stanton will not be traded, and that could hold things up. BP reports that the Pirates would end up with Hermida, Tucker, and Stanton. For Bay, the Pirates' compensation would have to be better than what they rejected from the Braves last week, which won't be easy. The Red Sox and Marlins have not yet gone to the commissioner's office. It's unknown yet on who would get Grabow. Jon Heyman says that Boston could even get Jack Wilson but the Pirates want their end of the deal made a lot better and Boston may even have to find a different third team.
-Many teams including all 3 AL East contenders are interested in Will Ohman, says Keith Law. The Atlanta Journal-Consitution says the Cards and Tigers are interested.
-The Greg Maddux to the Dodgers talks have started, says Buster Olney.
-Big shocker here: SI's Jon Heyman reports that the Nats and Jim Bowden have overplayed their hand on Tim Redding, and has value has gone way down. 15 scouts were watching last night when Arthur Rhodes was terrible against the Rangers. The Mariners can't do anything right. The Mets remain focused on relief pitching, and they're frustrated on the lack of progress on talks with Raul Ibanez.
-Nobody knows whether Brian Fuentes will be traded today, says MLB.com's Thomas Harding.
-CBS Sports says that the Cubs inquired on David DeJesus and Brian Giles.
-The Providence Journal reports that Boston has interest in Scott Eyre and Ron Mahay and that they've offered Brandon Moss for Mahay. The Boston Globe reports that JJ Putz and Huston Street are still in play.

Dunn to Rays?

Jayson Stark is reporting that the Rays have spoken to the Reds regarding Adam Dunn. While Jason Bay is the first choice, the Rays are keeping and eye on Dunn in case the blockbuster Marlins/Red Sox/Pirates deals goes through.

Jacobs For Molina?

-MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports that there's a lot of speculation that the Marlins have traded Mike Jacobs to the Giants for Bengie Molina. Florida has a lot of infield types and not a lot of catching, and San Francisco could sure use a big, young bat in that lineup even if he barely gets on base. More from me tomorrow, it'll be a crazy day. Good night...

Manny & Fuentes

-1050 ESPN Radio's Rich Cuttino reports that the players in the trade are good except for Manny Ramirez's option year that's holding it up along with the prospects. There are 3 teams including the Mets involved in Brian Fuentes, but the Rockies probably won't trade him. He thinks that Omar Minaya likes the team's vibe and may not do anything.

LA's Shortstop Search

-Jon Heyman reports that the Dodgers are trying to deal for a SS, and there has been interest in Orlando Cabrera and Marco Scutaro but nothing's doing. Is this why the Maddux deal is on hold? I hope not, for Ned Coletti's sake...

Maddux To Dodgers On Hold

-Ken Rosenthal reports that the Greg Maddux to the Dodgers talks are on hold so the two teams can work on other trades.

Manny...

Peter Gammons is reporting that the trade involving Manny will go into tomorrow due to the complications involved in the trade. Gammons cites Manny's no trade clause as a road block which might kill the trade, but talks will continue.

Three Team Deal Agreeg Upon In Principle

-BP's Will Carroll reports that the three-way trade has been agreed on in principle with Boston getting Jason Bay and John Grabow, Florida getting Manny Ramirez, cash, and a prospect, and Pittsburgh getting Jeremy Hermida, 2 prospects from Florida and a prospect from Boston. Diamondbacks Working On Dunn

-SI's Jon Heyman reports that Arizona has offered the Reds Chad Tracy for Adam Dunn and another NL team is said to have interest. More on this story as it develops.

More Red Sox, Marlins, Pirates

John Perrotto of the Beaver County Times is reporting that the three team deal that would send Manny to the Marlins and Jason Bay to Boston could be expanded. The Red Sox would recieve Jack Wilson in exchange for Jed Lowrie who would go to the Pirates, and the Bucs like BoSox prospect Hunter Jones, a solid lefty reliever in AAA who would go a long way towards replacing John Grabow. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says that the Pirates would get four prospects in addition to Jeremy Hermida.

Phillies News

According to Stephen Miller of The Morning Call, Pat Gillick would like to add a lefty reliever and another bat, even though it wouldn't be the impact bat Charlie Manuel wants.

Nationals Not Expected to Trade Vets

Bill Ladson of MLB.com is reporting that GM Jim Bowden doesn't expect to trade any veterans before the trade deadline. While there is legit interest in SP Tim Redding from other organizations, the players the Nats are trying to deal like Ronnie Belliard and Paul Lo Duca are having underwhelming years.

More Manny

Buster Olney is reporting that the a sticking point in the blockbuster three way deal that would send Manny to Florida and Jason Bay to Boston is that the Marlins want the Red Sox to add a prospect to the Marlins. Much more on this trade to come...

All Quiet in Baltimore

According to Dan Connolly of the the Baltimore Sun, the Orioles currently have no trades in the works. GM Andy McPhail said while nothing is happening as of tonight, one phone call could change that. He also said that he expects to maybe make a deal or two after the non-waiver trade deadline.

Manny Talk, Odds & Ends

-Buster Olney reports that the three way trade may be expanded to get the Red Sox John Grabow, and Florida wants Boston to add a prospect along with Manny Ramirez. Three way deals are tough to do...
-MLB.com's Adam McCalvey reports that the Brewers aren't on any moves right now, but that could change by tomorrow. They were scouting Eddie Guardado and Arthur Rhodes yesterday.
-MLB.com's TR Sullivan reports that the Rangers want pitching for their catching prospects, and that the Marlins and Reds are hard after Gerald Laird.
-MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports that the Rays and Marlins are still going after Will Ohman.

Stark: Rockies to Make Decision on Fuentes

Jayson Stark is reporting that the Rockies have informed teams interested in Brian Fuentes that they will make a decision Wednesday night if they will trade the closer. The teams interested know who they would have to give up if Fuentes became available. Stark also says that the Mets, Phillies, and Rays have told the Rockies they are no longer interested due to the Rockies high price.

3 Way Deal Seems Likely..Or Does It

-MLB.com's Jenifer Lanosch reports that the three-way Manny-Bay-Hermida deal could go down as soon as tonight, according to the Beaver County Times. BP's Will Carroll reports that the deal is in its final stages.
-Ken Rosenthal quotes a Marlins source saying that there's no way that they'd trade top OF prospect Mike Stanton.

Hawkins Deal Complete

-The Houston Chronicle reports that the Astros have acquired LaTroy Hawkins from the Yankees for 22-year-old Low-A 2B Matt Cusick who's batting .285/.356/.462 at Lexington.
-Jayson Stark confirms the Manny deal would be for Jeremy Hermida or Josh Willingham, Ryan Tucker, and Mike Stanton.

Stark: Yanks to Deal Hawkins

According to Jayson Stark, the Yankees are on the verge of trading LaTroy Hawkins for a low-minor leaguer. I really don't understand the why the Astros are buying when they have virtually no shot of making the playoffs.

Dan Graziano Checks In

-Newark Star-Ledger writer Dan Graziano reports that the Yankees may need a reliever and the Mets are interested in Carl Pavano. The Yankees will try to trade for Jarrod Washburn in August.
-Ken Rosenthal reports that the Rockies are still shopping Brian Fuentes and the Mets and A's are quiet.

Three Way Deal For Manny? Bay to Boston?

-MLB.com's Joe Frisaro could have the reason why the Bay to Rays talks have been so quiet. A baseball source told him that a 3 team deal is being talked about where Manny Ramirez would go to Florida, Jeremy Hermida and prospects would go to Pittsburgh, and Jason Bay would go to Boston. We have interesting stuff here, people.
-ESPN reports that a Manny Ramirez deal to Florida would send either Jeremy Hermida or Josh Willingham along with top pitching prospect Ryan Tucker and OF Mike Stanton.

Manny On The Verge???

-BP's John Perrotto reports that the Red Sox are on the verge of sending Manny Ramirez to the Marlins for three players including top power hitting single-A OF Mike Stanton. More information soon. Ramirez is currently playing for the Red Sox against the Angels.

Bay To Rays Talk Slow

-Jayson Stark reports that the Pirates and Rays had very little diologue today and that the trade isn't likely but the talks are still theoretically alive. People have theorized that if the Red Sox trade Manny Ramirez, that they'd go after Bay.
-All's quiet with the Reds, says MLB.com's Mark Sheldon.

Manny To Marlins Getting Serious?

-Buster Olney reports that the Red Sox and Marlins among other teams are in serious discussions about a Manny Ramirez trade. Boston would likely receive either Jeremy Hermida and Josh Willingham along with two young pitchers. The Dodgers and Padres have began discussing names on a Greg Maddux deal and something could get done quickly.
-Ken Rosenthal says that the Red Sox would take up around all of the remaining 7 million of Ramirez's salary, and he would have to become a free agent at the end of the season and would decline arbitration so the Marlins would get two draft picks.
-Reds GM Walt Jocketty told the Cincinnati Enquirer that he hasn't talked to anyone about Adam Dunn today, conflicting with Jon Heyman's report saying that there were a pair of suitors.
-Peter Gammons and the Newark Star-Ledger report that the Manny to Florida talks are serious and the latter source says that the Yankees, Tigers, Rays, and Rangers have interest in Scott Schoenweiss.

Afternoon Update

-The Tigers have traded C Ivan Rodriguez to the Yankees for enigmatic reliever Kyle Farnsworth. New York just got Damaso Marte in a trade an had an expendable bullpen arm and were woefully thin at catcher and got a good contact hitter in Pudge who's decent defensively. Farnsworth will play a major role in the Detroit bullpen and the trade of Rodriguez allows Brandon Inge to catch every day.
-Jerry Crasnick reports that the Marlins are interested in unhappy Jays C Gregg Zaun but a deal is unlikely at this point. They could go after Jeremy Affeldt.
-Jayson Stark says that the Mariners are asking the Mets for Jon Niese and a second prospect in exchange for Raul Ibanez and New York will pass. The Cubs are saying no to Felix Pie and a prospect for Ibanez. The Mets aren't going after a starting pitcher and the Marlins are denying rumors that they've acquired Arthur Rhodes. The Twins are going after Rich Aurilia and could give the Giants Boof Bonser for him. Philadelphia is still interested in a lefty reliever. The White Sox are dangling Orlando Cabrera for an arm. The Red Sox, Phillies, Brewers, Tigers, Mets, Cardinals and Rays all have interest in Rhodes. As many as 10 different teams have interest in Will Ohman.
-Newsday reports that the Dodgers could trade for Paul Byrd, which would make that their second deal in as many weeks between the two teams.
-No Manny to the Marlins, says the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
-The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that SS Reid Brignac and starter Jeff Niemann would be two guys going to Pittsburgh for Jason Bay.

Mid-Morning Rumors

-The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Rays are deep in talks to acquire Jason Bay but no elite prospect has been offered and the chances on him staying are still very good. Buster Olney reports that the two teams are trying to bridge the gap in negotiations. Interest has cooled on Wilson.
-Ken Rosenthal reports that Manny Ramirez will likely stay for the rest of the season, the Phillies would only take him in a "giveaway". The Mariners' demands are too high for both Jarrod Washburn and Raul Ibanez, wh Arizona could be interested in but their need is diminished. The Braves also offered Will Ohman to the Angels, but no dice.
-Jon Heyman reports that the Mariners just asked an NL team for two top prospects in exchange for Washburn.

-The talks for Washburn are dead, says Newsday.
-The Detroit Free Press says that the Tigers probably won't deal for another relief pitcher, which would mean that the Twins would be in the lead for LaTroy Hawkins.
-Adam Everett will remain with the Twins.

Evening Rumors

-Jayson Stark reports that there's very little interest in Manny Ramirez and, the Dodgers are continuing their pursuit for a SS but were shot down by Toronto when they asked about Marco Scutaro.
-SI's Jon Heyman reports that the Phillies are in the lead in the Ramirez sweepstakes and that the Dodgers and Marlins have also inquired. It isn't yet known what Boston would want from the Phillies.

Angels Acquire Teixeira

-ESPN and the LA Times confirms the deal for Casey Kotchman and AA reliever Stephen Marek.
-Jayson Stark reports that Casey Kotchman has been pulled away from his pregame warmups at Fenway meaning that an Angels' deal for Mark Teixeira could very soon be a reality.
-Ken Rosenthal also reports that Kotchman was pulled and a trade is imminent.
-MLB.com's Lyle Spencer reports that the trade that'd send Teixeira and AA reliever Stephen Marek (24 years old, 2-6, 3.66 ERA) is extremely close. This is all the Braves can get? Pathetic. The Angels came away with a steal, and will now be the easy favorites to win the World Series. Kotchman is a very good player, but they have Kendry Morales in the minor leagues and they have the financial resources to even resign Teixeira. The Braves wanted pitching and they get a AA reliever? This is an extremely weak haul for Braves GM Frank Wren and isn't substantially better than the two draft picks they would have received. This no doubt makes the Angels the favorites to take it all.

A's Taking Street Offers

-Jon Heyman reports that Billy Beane is taking offers for Oakland closer Huston Street and that the Dodgers, Rays, Brewers, White Sox, and Mets have all talked with Beane. The Mets are unwilling to trade their top pitching prospects.

Angels Falling Out Of Tex Talks?

-SI's Jon Heyman reports that Arizona, Tampa, and the Angels are involved in Mark Teixeira but a 1B swap would not be the first thing that Atlanta is looking for, which Anaheim may not want to do with Casey Kotchman, and would the Rays really deal Carlos Pena? An Angels insider told Heyman that the chances of a deal are "remote" and that Arizona is out in front.

Guillen Wants Out of KC

-A source has told ESPN Desportes' Enrique Rojas that Jose Guillen has asked for a trade out of Kansas City, and has a poor relationship with manager Trey Hillman. Perhaps the Mets could get the outfielder on the cheap.
-Buster Olney reports that with Tim Hudson likely needing Tommy John surgery, the Braves are asking for pitching in exchange for Mark Teixeira.
-The Philly Inquirer reports that there isn't an offer on the table for Ron Mahay.
-Ken Rosenthal reports that the Dodgers are not after either Mark Teixeira or Manny Ramirez and the team isn't going after Jack Wilson or Adam Everett.
-MLB.com's Alyson Footer reports that the Red Sox are interested in Doug Brocail.
-The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that the Twins and now Tigers have interest in LaTroy Hawkins and that the Dodgers have no interest in Adam Everett.

Tex Talk With Sherman and Heyman

-Joel Sherman of the NY Post reports that the Red Sox and Dodgers are now "engaged in substantive talks" on Manny Ramirez. If that deal happens, then Boston would be favored to get Mark Teixeira. Right now, Arizona remains the favorite. An NL exec told Sherman that the Dodgers could trade some of their chips for Brian Roberts, though I don't know what that would mean for Jeff Kent. The Angels and Yankees are bystanders for Teixeira.
-Jon Heyman reports that the Braves and Diamondbacks are apart in Mark Teixeira discussions and the Yankees are looking for a starting pitcher. Banniser? Redding? Snell? Byrd? The Brewers have scouted Arthur Rhodes.
Blogspot Bonus- Philadelphia placed Pedro Feliz on the DL, does this mean that the Phils go after an infielder?

Jim Molony Report

-MLB.com's Jim Molony checks in: The Marlins, Red Sox, Rays, Tigers, and White Sox have interest in Will Ohman but the Braves may not want to trade him. The Rockies are probably not dealing Brian Fuentes. The Orioles want an exact large price to deal George Sherrill and it probably won't be met. Arizona, Anaheim, and the Yankees are the leaders for Mark Teixeira. The Mariners remain firm on their offer for Jarrod Washburn. Jason Bay will stay. Molina, Lo Duca, Olivo, or Zaun could go to Florida.
-Peter Gammons reports that there's tons of interest in Texas' catchers. The Yankees are one of the teams interested in Gerald Laird while Boston is in on Taylor Teagarden.
Blogspot Bonus- The NY Daily News reports that the Mets have released Juan Padilla.

Dodgers Talking About Manny, Other Notes

-SI's Jon Heyman reports that the Dodgers are in the very early discussions to deal with Boston for Manny Ramirez, but there are numerous complications and hurdles to get it done. Matt Kemp or Andre Ethier would likely be the centerpiece of a deal. Reports yesterday said that the Red Sox would have to take the contract of Andruw Jones.
-The Dodgers and Yankees are also talking about getting Mark Teixeira, says Jayson Stark.
-1510 Radio in Boston reports that the Red Sox could acquire Mark Texeira from Atlanta, with Manny Ramirez headed to Arizona, and prospects going to the Braves.
-Ken Rosenthal reports that the Phillies are not the front-runners for Ron Mahay and other teams could be willing to give up more than Jason Donald.

Phils Not Close On Mahay

-A source now tells Jayson Stark that while there have been discussions, the Phillies are not close to acquiring KC reliever Ron Mahay and that Pat Gillick is going through all the lefty relief options. Good thing also, because Jason Donald would have been way too much for Mahay in my mind.
-Ken Rosenthal reports that the Dodgers don't have interest in Greg Maddux and a deal will likely not be done. Colorado could go after Paul Byrd, Ian Snell, or Tim Redding.

Angels In Tex Sweepstakes

-Ken Rosenthal reports that the Angels are now fully in the Mark Teixeira sweepstakes and would be interested in expanding the trade to include Will Ohman or Mike Gonzalez. Sources say that Joe Saunders and Ervin Santana would not be included, but perhaps Casey Kotchman, Juan Rivera, and a guy like Nick Adenhart would be enough.
-The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Tim Hudson may need Tommy John surgery.

New Trade Market With Jon Heyman

-Jon Heyman reports that the D-Backs are the leaders for Mark Teixeira with the Rays "ready to pounce" if a deal isn't reached. Jason Bay likely stays. Seattle may like its team more than people think, which is why they're looking for perfect offers for Jarrod Washburn and Raul Ibanez. Nobody wants Adam Dunn. Street, Sherrill, Burnett, and Arroyo will likely stay. Randy Winn and Bengie Molina will probably go, as will Gerald Laird and Rod Barajas.
-Buster Olney reports that nothing appears very promising between the Mets and Raul Ibanez, but if talks do heat up the deal could be expanded to include lefty Arthur Rhodes.

Mahay Bound To Philadelphia?

-ESPN's Jayson Stark reports that Royals lefty reliever Ron Mahay could be headed to the Phillies for AA Phillies SS prospect Jason Donald. He'd likely be a better offer than anyone else would give.

Lunchtime Notes

-The Newark Star-Ledger reports that the Dodgers have asked Texas about Michael Young and are talking about John McDonald and Alberto Gonzalez. The Mets are considering a bullpen overhaul where Aaron Heilman and Scott Schoenweiss would be dealt.
-The Jarrod Washburn trade is dead, says the NY Post.
-The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Rays, Cards, Phillies, Red Sox, and Angels have interest in John Grabow.
-Peter Gammons reports that the Red Sox are focusing on Doug Brocail, while Andrew Marchand says that the Mets are focusing on relief pitching.
-The Providence Journal reports that the Red Sox are interested in Ron Mahay.
-The Dallas Morning News says that the Snakes, Rays, and Tigers were scouting last night's Texas-Seattle game.
-Ken Rosenthal reports that top OF prospect Gerardo Parra, RSP Billy Buckner, and IF Jaime D'Antona would be among the players that could head to Atlanta for Mark Teixeira.

Morning Rumor Roundup

Teixeira- Buster Olney says that Arizona seems like the best fit and a package could be made with Chad Tracy and a pitching prospect not named Max Scherzer, which sounds like Jarrod Parker to me. An executive told Jon Heyman that the Braves seems locked in on the Snakes right now, though Arizona seemed to balk at giving up either Scherzer or Parker. The Angels, Dodgers, Rays, and Red Sox are the other teams. MLB.com's Mark Bowman says that the Yankees, Rays, and Angels are more likely to get Tex than Arizona. The East Valley Tribune reports that the Braves proposed a Tracy, Scherzer, and Parker offer so the teams could be pretty far off. BP's Will Carroll says that the Braves have 2-3 good offers and Tex could be dealt today, and the Orioles also inquired. MLB.com's Steve Gilbert reports that Arizona won't deal Scherzer, Parker, or Conor Jackson. The LA Times reports that the Angels are interested, the Braves are looking for a 1B, a pitcher, and a power OF.
Tejada- Ken Rosenthal says that the Astros are buying, not selling and doesn't believe the Tejada to Boston rumor. A major league source says there has been no discussion involving Tejada. MLB.com's Alyson Footer says that the Red Sox are scouting Tejada and reliever Geoff Geary. The Boston Globe reports that there is interest in Geary but not in Tejada. The Houston Chronicle says that the Red Sox have no interest in Tejada while the Nats, Mets, Rangers, Giants, and Nationals have scouted the 'Stros.
-Manny Ramirez won't go to Arizona, says MLB.com's Steve Gilbert, while the team is close to an extension with Dan Haren.
-Paul Byrd could go to the Rockies, says MLB.com's Anthony Castrovince.
-Ken Rosenthal reports that the Marlins are aggressively pursuing Gerald Laird, though the Yankees, Brewers, and Reds are also interested. The Ft Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel says the Fish are looking at Bengie Molina, Ramon Hernandez, and Ryan Doumit along with Laird. The Cards could go after Edgar Renteria. There doesn't seem to be a tradable SS to allow the Orioles to deal George Sherrill to the Angels, Brewers, Rays, or Phillies. Andruw Jones has been benched. Why doesn't anyone want Adam Dunn?
-BP's Will Carroll reports that the Rockies could move Yorvit Torrealba, but not to the Marlins. Would the Rays part with Dan Wheeler? Jeff Kent won't be traded. The White Sox have been aggressive, while the Twins, Mets, Phillies, and Rays have been quiet. Some teams are interested in David Weathers.
-The talks seem over with Jarrod Washburn, says the NY Daily News and the Yanks will probably not deal for a catcher.
-The Twins could deal Adam Everett to the Dodgers, says the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
-The Phillies probably won't get Brian Fuentes, according to the Philly Inquirer. Will Ohman could still be an option along with a righty bat.

This Could Be Bad For Hudson, Braves

-Braves starter Tim Hudson could be out for a long time. An MRI showed ligament damage and he'll visit Dr James Andrews this week. The Bravos are for sure sellers right now.
-MLB.com's Mychael Urban reports that the Mets have been talking to the A's about Huston Street, and the Rockies have inquired about Justin Duchscherer. Mark Ellis could also be on the block.
-The Brewers will likely stand pat, says Adam McCalvey of MLB.com.
-John Maine left the Mets game early with shoulder stiffness.
-Michael Young has a broken finger, he'll be out 5-7 days.

Olney, Rays, and Fish

-Buster Olney reports that the Astros are being active in the trade market and are looking for a late inning reliever to compliment Doug Brocail. Some teams including the Rockies are interested in Paul Byrd. There's some anger within the Mariners organization as to how the Jarrod Washburn negotiations played out and that they may trade him to another team even if it means taking on salary. It almost seems as if they're doing it out of spite. Colorado and St Louis could be interested.
-MLB.com's Bill Chastain thinks that any move the Rays make would be some sort of small surprise move.
-MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports that Alejandro de Aza will miss the rest of the season with ankle surgery.

Tex Deals On The Table, Arroyo Off Market

-David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution spoke to Braves GM Frank Wren for a while and was told that there were deals on the table for Mark Teixeira if he wanted to pull the trigger, but was waiting to see if he could get any improvements on the offers. I'd have to think that Arizona has the best offer right now.
-Jayson Stark reports that the Reds have taken Bronson Arroyo off the market, which takes an option off the table for the Yankees and Rockies. Shouldn't a bad team like the Reds be sellers?
-The Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox reached out to the Dodgers about Manny Ramirez but LA wanted Boston to take the contract of Andruw Jones.

Red Sox Interested In Tejada, Even More Tex Talk

-Sources have told ESPN Desportes' Enrique Rojas that Boston has had discussions with Houston regarding Astros slugging SS Miguel Tejada. Some say talks have just started while others say there has been discussion for weeks. More on this story as it becomes available.
-Jon Heyman reports that Atlanta and Arizona are discussing a deal that would send Mark Teixeira to the D-Backs for a package led by Chad Tracy, not Conor Jackson. Sources have told Heyman that talks aren't as far along as people are saying.
-MLB.com's Alyson Footer says that the Astros are looking for bullpen help. Don't they realize they're in last place and should sell?!?

More Tex Talk

-MLB.com's Mark Bowman believes that the Snakes and Braves are far along in the Mark Teixeira talks and adds in the Dodgers and Yankees to his potential suitors along with the Red Sox, Angels, and Rays.

Burnett Won't Be Traded

-MLB.com's Jordan Bastain reports that Toronto GM JP Riccardi has said that he won't trade top RSP AJ Burnett and risks that he could opt out after the season.
-Hank Blalock is out with stomach problems, according to the Dallas Morning News. Does that mean he was traded to the Giants? When Ray Durham was dealt to the Brewers he sat out the previous game with the flu. So we'll see...
-The Rays designated Gary Glover for assignment.

Posada To Have Season Ending Surgery

-Brian Cashman told Ed Price of the Newark Star-Ledger that Yankees C Jorge Posada has elected to have season ending surgery on his torn labrum and will probably be back to start Spring Training. This is a very wise move on his part, and now the Yankees can move on and try to get a catcher that's on the market like Miguel Olivo, Gerald Laird, Josh Bard, Dave Ross, or even Bengie Molina. Having someone not at full strength is bad enough, but coupling that with compromising the beginning of next season is just selfish and ignorant. Good for Jorge and the Yanks.

Eyre Available, Tex Sweeps Is On, Izzy Back As Closer

-Jayson Stark confirms that the Braves have told other teams that Mark Teixeira is available, and the Snakes, Red Sox, Angels, and Rays are the suitors. Stark also says that Cubs lefty reliever Scott Eyre has been made available to AL teams. The Red Sox, Tigers, and Rays are expected to have interest.

-All of the Reds trade chips will likely remain with the team this week, saus MLB.com's Mark Sheldon.

DIamondbacks and Braves Deep In Talks

-Yahoo!'s Steve Henson reports that the Snakes and Braves are far along in talks that would send a prospect (perhaps Jarrod Parker or Max Scherzer) and either Conor Jackson or Chad Tracy in exchange for Mark Teixeira.
-MLB.com's Dick Kaegel reiterated the rumor that the Yankees could go after Brian Bannister.

Washburn Media Squabble

-The Journal News reports that the Yankees are the only team going after Jarrod Washburn and that Seattle won't get Brett Gardner and doesn't have any leverage. Reports out of Seattle say that the Mariners have talked to a lot of other teams about Washburn and the arrogant NY writers are to blame for the rumors that said the Yanks were close to getting Washburn for next to nothing. Credit must be given to MLBTradeRumors for this one. By the by, the Journal News also reports that Pedro Martinez is slated as the starter for Friday's game against Houston.
Blogspot Bonus Houston activated Roy Oswalt from the DL.

Stark Update

-Jayson Stark reports that there's no way a Manny to the Mets trade works out. The Orioles say they'd have to be overwhelmed by an offer for George Sherrill, and the Brewers have dropped out of the race. Stark says that Orioles like both Maicer Izturis and Erik Aybar and they've scouted Phils AA SS Jason Donald. The Marlins, Cardinals, and Tigers are also interested. The Angels want relief pitching, and nothing seems to be working regarding Teixeira. The Angels don't want to trade Casey Kotchman and Atlanta doesn't want Kendry Morales.

Now Will The Braves Sell?

-MLB.com's Ryan Lavner reports that the Braves have placed both Chipper Jones and Tim Hudson on the 15 day DL, as Jo-Jo Reyes was sent down. The team brought up Charlie Morton, with Jeff Bennett coming up and C Clint Sammons brought up to temporarily take the place of the concussed Brian McCann. This flurry of moves could cause the Braves to be sellers this week. Stay tuned...

New Teixeira Talk

-Jayson Stark reports that the Red Sox, Rays, Snakes, and Angels have interest in Teixeira, but Tampa is looking for a righty hitting RF right now. Arizona is still the best fit at this point and reports are inaccurate that the Braves would demand Conor Jackson in a deal. "'Insist' is not the right word," the source told Stark. "For one thing, there hasn't been that much conversation. That would insinuate somebody walked away from an offer that didn't include him. And that's not the case." It's possible that Atlanta would take Chad Tracy and others.

Twins Interested In Hawkins, No Manny For Phils

-In some really amazing news as a Yankee fan, recently dfa'd pitcher LaTroy Hawkins has drawn interest from his formre employers, the Twins, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. New York may be willing to take on some of his salary in order to facilitate a trade.
-Phillies GM Pat Gillick told the New York Times that they won't acquire Manny Ramirez.

Afternoon Update

-Andrew Marchand has told ESPN Radio in New York that the Rockies are set to take Brian Fuentes off of the trade market. The Mets still have interest.
-Jayson Stark reports that the Tigers, Rays, Yankees, and Cardinals are interested in Will Ohman. The Marlins are still looking for that big lefty arm in the bullpen like Fuentes or George Sherrill, but will probably end up settling for someone like Arthur Rhodes. The Cubs are no longer looking for pitching.
-MLB.com's Jim Street reports that the Yankees are the main suitors for Jarrod Washburn, the Mets for Raul Ibanez, and the Rays for Adrian Beltre.

Mets Unlikely To Get Manny

-MLB.com's Marty Noble reports that the Mets will probably not get Manny Ramirez and maybe not any other corner OF before the deadline because of the lack of depth in their farm system.

Braves Had Deal In Place For Bay, Still Have Interest

-MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports that the Braves had a deal on Friday for Jason Bay in exchange for four minor leaguers but the deal was nixed by Pirates ownership. There is still interest in Bay and two players that would likely get dealt are SS Brent Lillibridge, and OF Brandon Jones and two others including a pitcher would have to be included.
-The Seattle Times reports that the Mariners may wait until August or the offseason to dump Jarrod Washburn so that another team providing salary relief would not be held against the M's in negotiations. The M's are looking for salary relief and one of Melky Cabrera or Brett Gardner. A Washburn deal is now more likely to go down through waivers.

Rays, Twins, Bucs

-The St Pete Times reports that Joe Maddon said that the chances of the Rays making a deadline deal is 50-50. Brian Fuentes could be an upgrade.
-The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that the Twins players aren't asking management to make a deal.
-The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Dodgers are still the main suitors for Jack Wilson though the Tigers are a bit interested.
-Lefty reliever Jaime Walker was activated from the DL and he could potentially be trade bait.

Odds & Ends

-ESPN's Keith Law reports that the Braves have at least four suitors waiting to acquire Mark Teixeira.
-Buster Olney reports that Twins AAA SS Adam Everett could be a good fit for the Dodgers.
-Toronto placed Brian Tallet on the DL, likely eliminating the posibility of the lefty being traded. As reported last night, Adam Eaton has been sent to the minors.
-MLB.com's Lyle Spencer thinks that the Rays should go after Adrian Beltre, Arthur Rhodes, and Erik Bedard.
-The Providence Journal reports that Boston has talked to the Mets, Phillies, Dodgers, and Diamondbacks about Manny Ramirez.
-The Boston Globe reports that the Cardinals have the best shot at getting AJ Burnett. The Tigers could go after Jack Taschner and Scott Schowenweiss.
-Newsday reports that the asking price is too high on Raul Ibanez, the Yanks and Mariners are playing chicken, and talks between the Yankees and Rangers for a Catcher went nowhere.
Blogspot Bonus- I disagree on Everett being a good fit for the Dodgers, because the guy can barely hit. They already have a slick fielding SS who can't hit in Angel Berroa.

Early Morning Rumor Roundup

-Ken Rosenthal has buried the Braves, and thinks that they should start selling off their player including Mark Teixeira. Arizona is reluctant to deal either Conor Jackson or Chad Tracy, but Rosenthal believes it'd be wise to deal Tracy and a second piece like Micah Owings. If Boston moved Manny, they'd be in a great position to acquire Teixeira. He thinks that the Yankees, Dodgers, and Rays will have little to no interest. The Rockies are looking for a young pitcher that they can put in their rotation right away, like Florida's Anibal Sanchez. Philly's JA Happ would be another option as would many Rays AAA starters. Rosenthal thinks that Florida will get it done. Rather then overpay for Raul Ibanez, the Mets may do...nothing. The Orioles want a young SS for George Sherrill but they probably wouldn't consider Tampa's Reid Brignac. Sources say it's 50-50 whether Texas trades either Gerald Laird or Jarrod Saltalamacchia before the deadline. The Marlins, Reds, Red Sox, and Indians are interested.
-Steve Phillips went through some rumors on ESPN.com last night and said that even though the Dodgers need bullpen help, they wouldn't get Brian Fuentes unless the dealt Matt Kemp to the Rockies. Dunn, Winn, and Bay are corner outfield possibilities for the Mets. Many teams have backed away from Huston Street. Like everyone, Phillips was shocked that the Astros got Randy Wolf. The Rays want bullpen help and a righty hitting OF, but he thinks that there's reluctance to get a star player. It'll be a challange for Frank Wren to trade Teixeira.
-Jon Heyman reports that it's highly unlikely that they deal Fuentes or Matt Holliday before the deadline. Colorado GM Dan O'Dowd said that he'd likely be a buyer rather than a seller. They have interest in Paul Byrd and Josh Fogg. They've received at least a half dozen inquiries on Holliday including the Mets, Angels, and Phillies. The Marlins, Red Sox, Cardinals, and Rays are all interested in Fuentes.
-The Yankees are willing to wait the Mariners out on Jarrod Washburn, says the NY Post. Remember they did the same thing a couple of years ago with Bobby Abreu and Cory Lidle (may God rest his soul). Pedro Martinez may return on Friday. It's growing less and less likely that the Mets will acquire a corner OF before the deadline. The team has never discussed Padres OF Brian Giles.
-The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that C Matt Treanor had a setback in rehab and that means the team will probably try to make a move before the deadline. Yorvit Torrealba, Miguel Olivo, and Gerald Laird are names that will be brought up. Johnny Estrada was dfa'd but the Fish don't want any of that. The Miami Herald talked about Cincy's David Ross. There's a need for a lefty reliever.
-The LA Times reports that the Angels don't really have a pressing need.
-Texas isn't very motivated to make a deal, says the Dallas Morning News. There's definitely interest in their catchers. The Reds have scouted Gerald Laird and the Rangers want pitching in return (how ironic). The Rangers and Giants have talked about a Hank Blalock deal.

Heyman Checks In

-SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Red Sox will probably not deal Manny. Thanks, captain obvious. It'll be hard for Seattle to get better if they don't deal any of their players. They asked for too much from the Yankees for Jarrod Washburn and have asked the Mets for lefty Jon Niese (an untouchable) for Raul Ibanez. Heyman finds it hard to imagine the Rockies trading either Matt Holliday or Brian Fuentes given their recent winning streak. Arizona is a potential player for Mark Teixeira, though they won't give up Conor Jackson. The Mets are looking for relief, but reportedly not Brian Giles. A Mets source said that rumor was started by the Padres.
-LehighValleyLive.com reports that JA Happ was taken out of his start because he's set to replace Adam Eaton on the roster. Apparently, Eaton is getting dfa'd.
-The Daily Herald reports that Jon Lieber or Scott Eyre could go with the emergence of Jeff Samardzija.
-Good night...

Washburn To Yankees Looking Bleak

-ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that New York GM Brian Cashman is no longer optimistic about a trade for Mariners starter Jarrod Washburn. This could possibly open up talks regarding Kansas City's Brian Bannister.

Tigers, Phillies, Mets, Marlins, Rays, Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Manny!

-BP's John Perrotto reports that the Mets are looking at Huston Street, Brian Fuentes, Arthur Rhodes, Eddie Guardado, Jason Bay, Raul Ibanez, and Randy Winn. The Diamondbacks have emerged as a suitor for Fuentes. The Marlins would be willing to trade Mike Jacobs and Cody Ross for relief help, and the Rays could be interested in Jeff Kent. The Cards, Tigers, Dodgers, Marlins, and Phillies all have interest in George Sherrill.
-MLB.com's Jason Beck reports that with the Tigers closer situation now unsettled, the team has interest in relievers from both sides of the mound.
-MLB.com's Ken Mandel reports that JA Happ may have been taken out of his AAA start because he was called up or because an unspecified trade was made. And oh yeah, the annual Manny rumors have once again started up.
Blogspot Bonus- The Philly Inquirer reports that a Manny deal is unlikely though it was discussed internally. If they don't bring back Pat Burrell, Manny could be obtained.

Washburn Talks Going Nowhere, Other Notes

-ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the talks between the Yankees and Mariners about Jarrod Washburn have hit an impasse with the Yanks willing to eat all of the lefty's money, but not trade a solid prospect in addition to assuming the rest of his contract.
-MLBtraderumors.com reports that Phils prospect JA Happ was pulled early from his start today.
-MLB.com reports that Phil Hughes is in high demand and 20 teams have asked about Rangers catchers.

Will The Rockies Buy or Sell?

-ESPN's Buster Olney reports that Colorado GM Dan O'Dowd is unsure as to whether he should trade reliever Brian Fuentes to a team like Tampa, Florida, or St Louis. O'Dowd has also inquired about Cincinnati's Bronson Arroyo and Oakland's Justin Duchscherer.

Manny, Laird, Washburn Talks

-"If the Red Sox are a better team without Manny Ramirez, they should trade me; I will not object," said Manny in an interview with ESPN Desportes' Enrique Rojas.
-MLB.com reports that the Yankees and Reds are interested in Gerald Laird, and MLB.com's Bryan Hoch says that the Yanks are still going after Jarrod Washburn.

ESPN's Trade Blog Wakes Up

-Buster Olney reports that the Yankees didn't have a scout in Toronto looking at Jarrod Washburn, but aren't willing to cave in on Seattle prospect demands. Arizona wants Mark Teixeira, but aren't willing to trade Conor Jackson in the deal. With Scott Linebrink on the DL, the White Sox are looking at Huston Street.
-Jayson Stark reports that there's no substance to the Manny talks, but the team remains interested in Brian Fuentes, George Sherrill, Jack Taschner, and John Grabow.
Blogspot Bonus- The Dodgers have optioned Andy LaRoche to AAA, and rumors have been swirling that he could be dealt for releif help.

Arroyo, Molina On Rumor Mill, Chipper To DL

-The Cincinatti Enquirer suggests that the Reds deal Bronson Arroyo to the Yankees for Brett Gardner. Other options could be to Texas for a catcher, to the Cubs for a guy like Felix Pie.
-MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports that the Marlins have talked with the Giants about Bengie Molina, but the asking price could be too high.
-MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports that Chipper Jones will likely be placed on the DL tomorrow.

Jones Out As Tigers Closer

-MLB.com's Jason Beck reports that Detroit manager Jim Leyland has removed Todd Jones as closer now for the time being and Fernando Rodney will take over 9th inning duties for now. This certainly changes Rodney's situation on whether he'll be dealt this week.
-Nothing new on the Jarrod Washburn front, says Ken Rosenthal, he also says that there aren'tany realistic suitors for Manny Ramirez.
-Mike Scioscia isn't ruling out a trade for the Angels, says MLB.com.

Pirates Rumors

-The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Pirates will still have to be blown away by an offer for Jason Bay, but the A's, Braves, Mets, and Phillies are interested. Pittsburgh initially took an offer involving Phil Coke, but went in another direction because he reportedly has a damaged labrum. "If the Pirates could have traded Nady and Marte straight up for Jose Tabata last winter, Bucs GM Neil Huntington said, 'We would have done it in a heartbeat.'"

Cubs Standing Pat, Tigers & Braves Rumors

-The Boston Globe reports that the Cardinals have the best shot to acquire AJ Burnett if he's traded.
-The Cubs are very happy with standing pat, according to the Chicago Tribune. GM Jim Hendry believes that Alfonso Soriano will begin to swing a hot bat and be as good an acquisition as they can get.
-MLB.com reports that the Tigers had a scout watching the Giants' Jack Taschner. The Brewers, Mets, and Phillies are also interested.
-MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports that the Braves appear to still be buyers and will be hesitant to deal Mark Teixeira (Arizona?) or Ron Mahay.
-Jarrod Washburn will apparently make his start with the Mariners today, meaning that a trade hasn't been made.
-The Rockies may call up Jeff Francis for tomorrow's start.

Washburn, Mets, and Rays Rumors

-Ken Rosenthal reports that the Yankees have agreed to absorb all of Washburn's salary and trade an average prospect, but right now no deal has been reached and Washburn is slated to start for the M's at 1pm at Toronto. Washburn appears willing to waive his no trade clause, but the team's asking price appears to be too much for New York right now.
-The NY Daily News reports that the Mets' focus is now on Raul Ibanez, but Seattle could be asking for too much.
-The SF Chronicle reports that the Rays are looking at relievers Brian Fuentes, George Sherrill, Alan Embree, and Jack Taschner.

Bannister To Yankees?

-The KC Star reports that the Yankees are looking at Brian Bannister as someone they can insert into the rotation if the Jarrod Washburn talks don't work out. Something involving Melky Cabrera is a posibility. The Yankees has offered Cabrera and Robinson Cano for Zach Greinke and Mark Teahan, but KC rejected it. Sources say that Seattle rejected an offer of Cabrera and Kei Igawa for Washburn and are trying to obtain Brett Gardner.
-The Cardinals, Brewers, Marlins and others are interested in George Sherrill. Baltimore should be able to acquire at least two future major leaguers.

Tex To Snakes False, Twins Standing Pat

-The East Valley Tribune reports that the Diamondbacks rumors for Mark Teixeira are completely false. Conor Jackson, Chad Tracy, Jarrod Parker and Dallas Buck were mentioned. People that could be dealt for him (as per the Atlanta Journal Constitution) include Kevin Youkilis, James Loney, and Casey Kotchman.
-The St Paul Pioneer Press reports that the Twins will probably not make any moves before Thursday and definitely won't deal way any veteran talent. To get players they can deal one of their pitchers like Nick Blackburn, Kevin Slowey, Glenn Perkins, Brian Duensing, or Kevin Mulvey. Melvin Mora, Adrian Beltre, Garrett Atkins, and a setup reliever were mentioned.

Cardinals Talk & The Asinine Astros

-The St Louis Post-Dispatch reports that talks have cooled with the Jays for SP AJ Burnett and the Rockies for a number of players including Brian Fuentes. They tried dealing for Jon Rauch and Damaso Marte before they were dealt. Fuentes, Ron Mahay, George Sherrill, Eddie Guardado and Will Ohman are still available and they've had talks about Giants IF Rich Aurilia and Padres OF Brian Giles though the team is reluctant to deal top shelf prospects.
-The Houston Chronicle reports that the Astros will have a scout on hand when Freddy Garcia has his workout. First the Randy Wolf trade and now this? Why are the last place Astros acting like they're contending for the playoffs? Am I missing something?
-Former Astros prospect Jason Hirsh will likely start for Colorado tomorrow.
-Nats SS Christian Guzman has a right thumb contusion and will likely miss the next couple of days, says the team website.

Early Morning Roundup

-In a radio interview at about 1am last night, Jayson Stark took the Yankees' acquisition as a surefire eventuality. He said that the Marlins would be the most likely to acquire Brian Fuentes and George Sherrill (though he thought the Orioles would not deal him), and if Mark Teixeira gets traded (which would be decided by today's Atlanta result) it would most likely be to Arizona.
-The NY Post reports that the Mets have inquired about the availability of Manny Ramirez, but the Phillies would be best equipped to make a deal. The Post also reports that the Mets now have their sights set on Raul Ibanez, Randy Winn, Adam Dunn, Austin Kearns, or maybe Jose Guillen. "I guess you would say I'm less optimistic," said Jerry Manuel about an outfielder.
-At 1:14 this morning, Jon Heyman of SI.com reported that the Mets won't make a deal for Manny. Ramirez was said by some, according to Heyman to have his eyes set on the Angels. The Mets now turn their attention to Ibanez with an eye on the high asking price of Jason Bay, considering they asked Omar Minaya for Fernando Martinez in exchange for Xavier Nady.
-TSN quotes the NY Post story I had on here last night, saying that the Yankees were set to acquire Jarrod Washburn for "several prospects".
-The Philly Inquirer reports that several teams are interested in Fuentes but doesn't mention any of them. Great job...
