Trade Update
Milwaukee acquired a big bullpen piece, obtaining relief pitcher Scott Linebrink from San Diego inexchange for three minor league pitchers. Linebrink was 3-3 with a 3.80 ERA in 44 games.
The Padres were happy with the emergence of reliever Heath Bell and they were slowly phasing him into the 8th inning role, rendering Linebrink an expendable part. The Brewers get their 8th inning man as Derrick Turnbow will have a lesser role. One interesting insight is that a report last night said that the Brewers were going after Jermaine Dye, but were unwilling to part with Turnbow. This trade may change that and open the doors for Milwaukee to acquire the right handed slugging outfielder. San Diego acquired righty Will Inman, lefty Steve Garrison, and lefty Joe Thatcher. The 20 year old Inman was 5-8 with a 2.97 ERA in 21 starts between high A Brevard County and AA Huntsville. In 20 starts at high A Brevard County, the 20 year old Garrison was 8-4 with a 3.44 ERA in 20 starts. The 25 year old Thatcher was 3-1 with a save and a 1.42 ERA in 38 games combined with Huntsville and AAA Nashville.
