One team advances, one team goes home, one team wants to put it away, and another wants to die another day. Scores, previews, news, and rumors today on ATM.
The Red Sox OWN the Angels, plain and simple. Curt Schilling put on yet another masterful performance as the Red Sox brought out the bats in a 7 run 8th, and brought out the brooms after a 9-1 win advanced them to the ALCS. They're getting good starting pitching, and Manny and Papi are en fuego, and this team is dangerous. But if the Yankees-Indians series keep going, how will that affect this club. Will it keep them well rested and hot, or will it ruin and slow their momentum?
Joe Torre had his job on the line, and the Yankees bats awoke from their slumber to the tune of an 8-4 win. Johnny Damon is emerging as an all time great postseason player, and Phil Hughes really picked up the slacked as Roger Clemens tweaked his hammy and couldn't get out of the 3rd inning. And there's no way in hell I'm going to go through memory lane talking about how it could be his last ever start. If I had a dollar for every "last Rocket start" I'd probably match his insane contract for this season. The Yankees will trot out Chien Ming Wang on 3 days rest tonight against Paul Byrd, game 4 is at 7:37pm on TBS or on ESPN Radio for all y'all on the go.
Of course the Torre rumor opened up dozens of articles of possible replacements, including Don Mattingly, Joe Girardi, and Tony LaRussa. Another name that may move from the Yankees is Alex Rodriguez, and the Cubs and Angels are chomping at the bit to bid for his services. I wouldn't say that A-Rod sweeps them off their feet, that job would belong to Arizona and Boston respectively. The Philadelphia Daily News listed the free agent CF's, and it was quite the impressive list. Jones, Hunter, Rowand, Cameron, and Japanese stud Kosuke Fukudome. If Rowand is likely to command Eric Byrnes lettuce (3/30) the upper echelon guys are in for a nice payday. In addition to Rowand, Kyle Lohse and JC Romero are among the Philly free agents. The Cubs could be looking to deal Jason Marquis, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Indians 3rd base coach Joel Skinner and AAA skipper Torey Lovullo are among the Pirates managerial candidates, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The Pittsburgh Tribune Review adds Trent Jewitt, Bob Walk, Phil Garner, and Ken Macha to that list.
